Think Pink

I have to take just a short break from the latest pictures of Anna (don't worry there is one at the end) to tell you about something Jeff and I did . On February 17, Jeff and I went to Jacksonville to run the inaugural 26.2 with Donna: The National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer. We have been training since November and we ran the half marathon. It was a beautiful day (actually a little too warm for running), part of the course was on the beach, and I beat Jeff by ten minutes, but that's not the important part. This was a very well organized event, especially for it being the inaugural year. Over seven thousand people ran and the energy was amazing. If you have ever participated in a Race for the Cure or The 3 Day or 2 Day Walk for Breast Cancer, you know how a great cause can really bring people together. Many runners had special shirts or stickers explaining that they were running in honor or in memory of someone. Jeff and I totally missed these at the expo. Considering both of our mothers are survivors of breast cancer, you think we would have noticed these, geesh! So since I had nothing to do but run for 2 hours and 23 minutes, I had a lot of time to read what everyone wrote. Here are some of my favorites:
"I'm running for mom" (I saw way too many of these)
"I'm running for you!"
"I'm running for 1 in 8 women"
"I'm running for her" (with and arrow pointed to the person next to him)
"I hate cancer! I love boobs!"
But the very best thing I saw all day were matching shirts worn by a man and woman (about my age). They had a picture of two beautiful little girls and it said, "I'm running for a cure so they won't have to." Well doesn't that just sum it up? I hope that sentence isn't trademarked because it is my new motto for my next big challenge.
In September I will be doing the 3 Day Walk for Breast Cancer Benefiting Susan G. Komen for a Cure. I did the walk in 2002 and I am signed on again. I'll be walking with my mom, sister, cousin, aunts, and a group of wonderful friends. You will definitely be hearing more about this over email (unless you are a friendly blog-stalker--I hope I have at least one or two), but I wanted to make the official announcement here.
Check out my 3 Day web site to learn more about why I am walking.

Jeff and I didn't take our camera with us, so here is a picture I snapped of the medal once we got home. Isn't it cute?
I'm walking 60 miles in 3 days to help find a cure for breast cancer so she doesn't have to.

14 months old

I've decided to follow Jodi's lead and provide a more detailed update on Anna this month. I know everyone likes to see pictures, and they are so easy to post, but I thought some of you might want to know a little more about what Anna is up to these days.
She still only has two teeth! Just the two on the bottom, but we can see several top teeth just sitting under the gums waiting to pop out (probably all at once). Trust me, I will let you know when she finally gets more. Update since I started writing this! When Jeff came home tonight we looked closely up top, and one of her teeth has poked through!
The girl loves to eat. She does the sign for eat and starts pushing her high chair in the kitchen when she is hungry, which is about 10 times a day. She eats just about everything, but favors bananas (which she calls "nanas" not to be confused with "Anna" which she can also say). She also loves pasta, just like her mommy. She had a long love affair with Cheerios, but now asks for "crackers" when she wants a snack. I've been giving her the Annie's Honey Bunny Grahams and she LOVES them! I tried mixing them in her snack trap with the cheese bunny crackers and she would pick out the cheese crackers and drop them on the floor, one after another until she grabbed a honey cracker. So funny!
As I just mentioned, Anna can say "Anna." She loves to run through our closet, in one door and out the other, and points to herself and says, "Anna!" when she comes out. And then we all clap. Harrison and Lauren can both say "Anna" too, so when we get together with them, all three of them just say, "Anna" over and over. Anna can also say a few other things. She likes to say "hat," which she whispers for some reason. She can also say mama, dada, pappy, mimi, Mei Mei, ball, baby, and bye-bye. She also says no, no, no and waves her finger (do I do that?). Other things she says, which we understand are bath, hot, and Elmo. She signs more, all done, eat, sleep, please, thank you, and milk.
Anna's very special talent is making animal sounds. Of course, it all began with the owl (click here if you forgot), but her repertoire has extended beyond the forest and into the farm yard. She can make the sound of a dog, cat, rooster, horse, sheep, duck, cow, and pig (and I mean the snorting sound, not just an oink). Of course, when I try to get these on video, she doesn't want to perform.
She loves to sing, or rather, to have people sing to her. Itsy-Bitsy Spider and Pat-a-cake are favorites. She also loves Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes and the entire Toddlers Sing Playtime CD that we listen to in the car--all the time. She does sing along to one song, which cracks me up. When I sing The Wheels on the Bus she sings the "allllllll" part with me. You know, "Alllll through the town." She almost always says it at the right time and holds the note for quite awhile. Again, haven't been able to get this on video, but I am trying.
We haven't been to the doctor since her 12 month check up (thank goodness) so I don't know her current weight. She is just starting to wear 12-18 month clothes and most people comment that she is "petite." How nice for her. That is a word that has never described me.
She loves to be outside and pick up leaves, rocks, or wood chips. She gives us kisses all the time and also blows kisses. She loves when we read to her. She's just great. We love her so much!

Sorry for the delay

It was cold here in Atlanta (see the snow?), so we decided to head down to Florida for a week with the cousins and grandparents.
We were able to play outside and ride around in the golf cart.
We also went to Disneyworld! Anna was so interested in the characters. Here she is meeting Belle.
The teacups were fun!
Mickey was not.

Back at home we had fun singing lots of songs.
Anna decided she could learn how to drive, too.
Ready to go!

Anna had so much fun with her cousins!

Guess Where We Went

More pictures coming soon...
